For years I kept journals -- in composition, spiral bound, and French graph paper books. This blog is an attempt to get back to writing and documenting the world around me using photos, newspaper headlines, and other articles.

Two posts in one day

The cousins are in the bath with Stan supervising.  Heather has taken Dad and Valerie back to the hotel...and I'm documenting our super sweet day.  I'm too full to do much else.

The weather didn't cooperate for a lot of outdoor time.  We didmanage to pull on our rain jackets to take a walk down to the park at the end of the street.  But by the time we got there, the sprinkles had turned into rain and we didn't linger.  The walk did afford us an opportunity to see the neighborhood Halloween decorations.  There are some houses decked out in full pumpkin, ghost, witch and spider web regalia, for sure.

When we got back to the house, we took two pumpkins and the carving tools down to the garage to make our own front stoop decorations.  Joshua was more interested in the riding vehicles or drawing than carving, so Heather had to do the majority of the work.

Selim worked his pumpkin from all angles and positions.

Dad and Valerie supervised, despite the chilly weather.

To warm up, we came back inside for some story time.

While the four of them read, Heather, Stan and I were in the kitchen.  We had a pre-Thanksgiving feast: brown rice, garlic roasted butternut squash (thank you Todd and Jen), cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, green beans, mushroom gravy and turkey.  For dessert, Heather made apple and pumpkin pies.  Delicious!  How did I forget to get all that with the camera?

Our conversation ran the gamut from my current work and the trips I've taken to London, family news, Valerie's consulting, Dad's prison volunteering, the value of karate (with a physical form demonstration) -- to the peculiar New England accent and how you pronounce Leominster (Lemon-stir, not Leo-minster), the constant use of wicked and how you turn sweet into two syllables (sah-weeeeet).

Tomorrow we look forward to left over pie for breakfast and a parade at 10:00.  It should be another good day.
