For years I kept journals -- in composition, spiral bound, and French graph paper books. This blog is an attempt to get back to writing and documenting the world around me using photos, newspaper headlines, and other articles.

Test #2

I passed the test today.  I found it harder than the last one.  This module our instructor kept saying that it wasn't about how much we could memorize, but how well we were learning to navigate the resources.  For me, it was about that because I don't remember discussing some of the material that we were asked.  So, two tests down and two more to go before August 2.

I emailed my program coordinator this afternoon and asked if we could look at sending me to a post sooner rather than later.  If my window of leaving is between August 2 and October 2, I want to go in August.  That way the anxiety over leaving will be for a shorter time span.  I also want to be able to come back and be able to turn my attention to Selim and his school year.  The best case scenario is that I am posted somewhere that Nedim and Selim can join me for the first two weeks or so.  That would make the rest of the separation easier to bear.  We'll see what my options are in the next few weeks.

I'm sorry to be missing the July retreat at the Ashram this week. I think this is the first one where I will have missed the entire event in many years.  Not only is it a time to meditate, sit together in Remembrance, but it is also a time to reconnect with long-time friends that I don't get to see on a regular basis.  I would benefit for some time spent in contemplation right about now.  Selim is headed up there tonight and will be able to participate in the children's program, play with the other kids and have meals under the tent.  Last week he helped move chairs and other tasks in preparation, continuing the family participation in seva.  He is a lucky boy.

  1. He answered the phone when we called yesterday & I didn't realize it was him at first! Sounded so grown up. And happy, with lots of activities.

We played at the park in the am, rowed around pm, got a little too much sun on my shoulders. More sunscreen today!

    Congratulations on passing your test!
